Golden Jade
Origin
South Africa and Mozambique
Family
Crassulaceae
Description
‘Hummel’s Sunset’ or Golden Jade is a dense, mounding shrub. Its glossy, ovate (egg-shaped) leaves sprout from thick, woody branches and turn golden yellow with red margins when grown in full sun.
The tip’s coloration is even more intense during the cooler months of the year. Clusters of small starry white or pale pink flowers bloom in profusion from fall into spring. This Crassula ovata cultivar makes a very pretty bushy shrub.
Environment
Crassula Ovata is easy to grow in a container, best in full sun but will tolerate part sun. It needs well-drained soil with a neutral pH. Water regularly from spring to autumn and allow the soil to dry out before watering again. During the winter months, water only enough to keep the leaves from shriveling. A most common reason for failure is over-watering.
Landscape Use
It can be used as an ornamental plant.
